Todi (Umbria)

Todi (Umbria)
Originally Etruscan, Todi is a beautiful hilltown. access from the main car park below is now easy thanks to a funivia that resembles a cable car on railtracks.

Things to See

Piazza del Popolo
This is the main square and (of course!) is flanked by the duomo and civic buildings, the Palazzo del Capitano, Palazzo del Popolo and Palazzo del Priori. The Duomo is worth a look inside and there is a small art gallery / museum in the Palazzo del Capitano.

San Fortunato
The largest church other than the Duomo and located close to the Piazza del Popolo. Inside you’ll find a small fresco by Masolino di Panicale, of particular note because he was teacher of Masaccio, one of the first Renaissance painters. You can also climb the bell tower, worth it for the views of the surrounding countryside.

Santa Maria della Consolazione
One of Italy’s finest Renaissance churches, built, as is typical of this style of church, in its own space outside the town walls.

Deruta (Umbria)

Deruta is famous for the glazed pottery known as maiolica, it has a lovely old centre with numerous maiolica shops. However, most visitors head for the enormous warehouse shops near the dual carriageway below.
