A well appointed apartment - the ground floor of a "villa" in the centre of Mercatale di Cortona.
Mercatale is a quiet place though well supplied with all facilities (including broadband) and the apartment is off a quiet lane that leads out of town into the hills.

Inside it is large and comfortable, two bedrooms, a double and a single for a maximum of three people, a dining-living room, well planned kitchen and good bathroom. Externally there is a tiny lawn, sufficient for a little table and a few chairs and, in another area a wide gravel driveway and garage. You can walk to supermarkets, butchers, bakery, banks (ATM), restaurant and three cafes.

The owner is a very friendly and helpful man who looks after some of the villas we rent. He lives in another apartment in the building with his wife. He makes excellent wine which he shares with visitors.

The village is well situated as a base for touring. Cortona, a medieval town with its origins in Etruscan history is close by as is Perugia. The towns of Siena, Orvieto, Gubbio, Assisi, Arezzo, Pienza, Montalcino and Montepulciano are all within an hour's drive and Florence takes ninety minutes.

The immediate area is in beautiful countryside, dotted with farmhouses, palazzi and classic hill top towns, as well as being near the major artistic centres of central Italy. Even Rome can be reached on a day trip by train.

Booking deposit is half of the total, rest due six weeks before rental.
