After the few metres up the vicolo and eight steps inside the door, the apartment is on the first floor of the palazzo. It has a big main room with windows over the street, comfortable seating, a dining area and a kitchen area at the other end. There is a double bedroom and a bedroom with two beds. One of the sofas is also a single sofa-bed. Maximum - five guests. Furnishing is stylish and antique; the apartment is opposite the owner's family antique business.

There are two bathrooms, one with bath and shower, one with shower. There are large windows looking down over the narrow street and the stone buildings typical of the 15th Century. This is a wonderful place to enjoy an Italian walled city. Parking areas start about 200 metres away.

Appartamento Marri is a superb self catering apartment in the centre of Cortona, the
walled hill town in the east of Tuscany. One viewpoint looks over to Montepuciano, of vino
noble fame and westwards to the hills around Pienza and Siena It has been rented by
Gorgacce Rentals since 2003. It is very comfortable with two bedrooms and two
bathrooms. Although it is on the first floor looking over the via Nazionale (the most
important street in Cortona) there are only a few steps up into the apartment as the main
door is in a "vicolo" - a narrow sloping street a great feature of Cortona.
The via Nazionale is a traffic free lane so there is no significant noise. Cortona is
magnificent. Its 12th to 16th century architecture is completely intact. It's significant art
includes the much reproduced "Annunciation" of Fra Angelica. The most important
museum of Etruscan civilisation is in one of the two magnificent lower piazza. There are
many archeological excavations of Etruscan remains in the immediate vicinity.
Cortona has many shops for all tastes, restaurants and cafes and one can while away a
whole day drinking capuccino, eating ice cream and dining out in one of the trattoria,
pizzeria or fine restaurants. It is close to Lake Trasimeno where there are ferries to the
islands and to other towns on its shores. The Perugia to Siena fast road is a few
kilometres away giving great access to both Tuscany and Umbria. Perugia is less than half
an hour and Siena is about fifty minutes. Montepulciano, Cortona, Assisi and many other
places in Tuscany and Umbria are quite close. There is a station with parking in the valley
below with trains to Florence, Rome, Arezzo, Orvieto, Perugia and many other places.
Italian trains are regular and punctual with low fares.
Although it would be easy to spend a whole week just wandering around the town and its
immediate vicinity (see the Cortona walk ) Cortona is well placed for touring the regions of Tuscany and Umbria
