Spello Medieval City - Umbria

Beautifully restored houses and apartments in the historic centre of Italy's most perfect, small walled city. Spello is the next town east of Assisi on the side of Monte Subasio in Umbria.

It is a classic hill town mainly dating from the middle ages, famous for its 'infiorata' in June when all of Italy seems to come here to see the flower 'paintings'. It is just ten minutes from Assisi and is itself a "Citta d'arte".

Spello Medieval City - Umbria

All narrow streets with small shops and artisan workshops. Considered to be the most perfect example of an Italian City of the middle ages. The places we rent are in the upper part of the town below the city wall. Restaurants, cafes, shops are all within a few minutes walk. One of the apartments is made within the walls of an ancient convent and seven others are just across the via Giulia in an old palazzo. Because of the nature of the hillside, most have extensive views of the valley and hills beyond (snow capped in winter).

Ca' Spadolino is a tall thin house with a roof terrace. Casa Giardino is an elegant one bedroom house with a double sofa bed in the spacious living room and a tiny garden.

The apartments demonstrate the Italian flair for retaining the historic character of a building whilst creating modern living space. The Spello apartments, like most of the town within the city walls and Assisi, are made from the pink stone of Monte Subasio. Car parking is available within at least two hundred yards of each property. Spello has a rail station (about a mile from the apartments) and has good connections to the rest of Umbria and Tuscany.

A unique holiday opportunity; a chance to live amongst Italians in the heart of Umbria with excellent connections to Tuscany and Rome.

Ca' Spadolino is a well appointed town house with the entrance door up a flight of steps from the narrow street. More Ca Spadolinostone stairs lead to living room with large arched windows, dining area/sitting room and a small but complete kitchen; next floor: two double bedrooms one with ensuite bathroom and a second bathroom. A few more stairs Spello Rooflead to a small study which can take a single bed. There is a roof terrace with panoramic views of the town and the montains all around. Air conditioning is available at extra charge (not usually needed). There is a permanent internet connection, phone and satellite TV.

Ca' Spadolino Testimonials

Ca Spadolino availabilities

Casa Giardino (right photos) is a totally independent house with a small garden. In reality it is the top level of a larger building built against the hillside and is approached by a pathway, partly stone steps.

It is an elegant one bedroom house with a double sofa bed in the spacious living room which has a kitchen at one end. Very well designed.

The wall of the garden is the ancient city wall.

Terrific views over the red tiled roofs of Spello to the valley and mountains.
