Teverina Bassa straddles the old Roman road that linked Rome to the north east coast. Life is based around the farm and forestry work of the family who own the land and buildings. Accommodation for visitors is a fairly recent edition and they have put a lot of energy into making it comfortable.
The beautiful sheltered valley with views of hills and woodland means its always a quiet and relaxing place. Its east of Cortona (about 20 minutes) down a well kept gravel road that comes off the spectacular new road that runs along the ridge of the mountain. There is a small shop in nearby Teverina which also has a restaurant and there are other accessible places in both directions.
There are three buildings : the owners’ farmhouse, Casa Fabbri - a four bedroom house with its own garden and Caselle, a charming ancient building which used have both the local government offices, the schoolroom, the priest’s house and church. Today Caselle has been made into four well appointed apartments.
The pool area is between the three buildings about 200 metres from Casa Fabbri, 100 metres from Caselle.
Casa Fabbri can sleep eight people. It is one of three houses all contained within one building but it is quite private to itself, has its own parking area, courtyard and garden.
Groundfloor : a large sitting/dining/kitchen room
2 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms. The fitted kitchen has frudge-freezer, oven and hobs.
Upper floor : 2 double bedrooms (can be two single beds in each).
The entrance comes off a wide courtyard fitted with tables, brollies and deckchairs.
Across the courtyard, there are a few steps up to a mature garden with a child’s swing, a lovely place to lie in the sun or in the shade of a tree.
Caselle has four apartments and a big country garden with its own “boules” court and barbecues.
This year we are renting Apartment 2 with three bedrooms, very spacious on an upper floor - entrance goes out on the side away from the garden (very short walk). It has two bathrooms and very big day room with fitted kitchen, dining table and sitting area.
Apartment 3 is entered from the garden courtyard. Its on the top floor with two bedrooms and two bathrooms. All the rooms are spacious. The day room has a fitted kitchen and dining and sitting areas. A l;aundry room with 3 washing machines leads off the courtyard.
The big courtyard and the attached gardens have wonderful views of the quiet farmland and mountainous woodland. Lots of shade from mature trees, makes a restful environment whilst still giving room for a boules court, table tennis and ball games.
The pool area is on its own - 10 metre by 5 metre pool (33 by 16 feet) - with outstanding views.
